According to the suit, Netflix apparently tried to obtain a license for Chooseco's trademark in the past, but wasn't able to reach a deal with the publisher. Also, the lawsuit notes that Chooseco sent Netflix a cease and desist request asking the service to stop using Choose Your Own Adventure in connection with its marketing efforts for one of its earlier interactive children's programs. The film gets bloody and violent, which is part of the reason Chooseco has chosen to sue, claiming the disturbing nature is inappropriate for young readers and that the adult imagery "tarnishes" the Choose Your Own Adventure brand.
Chooseco is seeking $25 million or more in damages. "We would prefer not to resort to litigation, but given the damage that we will suffer as a result of the use of our mark we've been left with no other option".

While describing his Bandersnatch video game - which is an allegory for the film as a whole - main character Stefan says, "It's a "Choose Your Own Adventure" book".
