A 13-year-old Wisconsin girl who went missing in October after her parents were shot dead has been found alive. Kasinskas told The Star Tribune that she didn't even realize he was her neighbour.
"It's wonderful - the will of that 13-year-old girl to survive and escape". "It's awesome, the will of that 13-year-old girl to survive and escape".
Jake Patterson, a 21-year-old Wisconsin man, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of kidnapping, Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald told reporters at a news conference on Friday.
The few neighbours who know Patterson's family say he grew up in a cabin in a remote development that's a mix of seasonal and year-round homes about 10 miles (16 kilometers) outside Gordon proper.
Fitzgerald said there is no evidence Patterson knew Jayme or her family or had been in contact with her on social media.
Patterson is scheduled to appear in court on Monday to enter a plea. Jayme's grandfather Robert Naiberg said in a telephone interview on Saturday that the only thing the family knows for sure is that no one knew Patterson.
"We are still mourning the loss of long-time Jennie-O family members Jim and Denise, but our entire team is celebrating with the community, and the world, that Jayme has been found", Mr Lykken said.
Authorities have recovered several guns, including a shotgun they think was used to blow open the front door of the Closs family home and used to kill James Closs, 56, and Denise Closs, 46.
Jayme has been described as "medically cleared", although Sheriff Fitzgerald was unable to comment on whether the youngster had endured any abuse while being held captive. Glynn and Jones say they're relying on "the integrity of our judicial system" to treat him fairly.
In November, the sheriff said he kept similar cases in the back of his mind as he worked to find Jayme, including the abduction of Elizabeth Smart, who was 14 when she was taken from her Salt Lake City home in 2002.
He did not give further details.
"She told me who she was".
He wonders whether Patterson was somehow stalking Jayme.
Jayme was invited inside and offered food and water, which she declined, the newspaper reported. "I just can't wait".
Erik once lived in the same rural cabin in Gordon, Wisconsin where Jayme was held captive.
"She said that this person's name was Jake Patterson, 'he killed my parents and took me,"' Kristin Kasinskass said.
"I hope that she's in good shape", the Mayor said.
Property records show that the cabin belonged to Patterson's father at the time of Jayme's disappearance. She was found and rescued nine months later.
Her uncle, Jeff Closs, told KARE News the family had "thought it was going to be a different ending".
Jayme's aunt, Jennifer Smith, posted on Facebook on Saturday, writing: "Jayme had a pretty good night sleep it was great to know she was next to me all night what a great feeling to have her home. I just wanted to scream very loudly".
"There is so much love and hugs in our district today", Diane Tremblay said.
The girl appeared unkempt and thinner than in photos publicly released, Kasinskas said.
Local, state and federal investigators searched for the teen for months.
Douglas County Sheriff Tom Dalbec says his office received a 911 call at about 4:30 p.m. saying Jayme Closs had been located.
An Amber Alert for her was issued that afternoon.
The search stretched across cornfields and wooded areas and drew 1,500 volunteers - almost half as many people as the entire 3400-person population of Barron, which sits about 145km northeast of Minneapolis.
The National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children said it was "overjoyed" that Closs was found alive.
