An unidentified patient who was kept in isolation at a Philadelphia hospital while being tested for Ebola has been confirmed as not infected with the deadly virus, a hospital spokesman said on Wednesday.
Preliminary testing initially ruled out Ebola, but the hospital, part of Philadelphia-based Penn Medicine, said the evaluation was done out of "an abundance of caution".
Preliminary testing indicates that the patient has another condition, according to Penn Medicine.
The doctor said staff has received extensive training on how to care for patients with Ebola after four cases were diagnosed in the United States in 2014. Early test results suggest the patient has another condition that is the cause of their illness, but the hospital is taking precautions until the definitive results are in.
