"A patient who met screening criteria for Ebola testing is now being evaluated at HUP while tests to assess the patient's condition are completed", Dr. Patrick J. Brennan, chief medical officer at Penn Medicine, told told NBC 10.

A patient is being tested for Ebola at a hospital in Philadelphia, although officials don't believe the patient has the potentially deadly illness.

Preliminary testing indicates that the patient has another condition, according to Penn Medicine. In an abundance of caution, a patient who met screening criteria for Ebola testing is now being evaluated at HUP while tests to assess the patient's condition are completed.

"Ebola virus spreads to people through direct contact with bodily fluids of a person who is sick with or has died from Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), the CDC says".

The hospital did not give more information about the patient or the circumstances for their treatment, but said testing is required when symptoms "suggest a serious disease, particularly involving patients who have traveled overseas".

"All hospital operations continue as usual, and there was no impact on other patients or visitors during this standard evaluation process", Richter said.
