  • Ghosn under scrutiny over 50,000-euro wedding bill

Ghosn and his wife Carole used the Grand Trianon part of Versailles for a party they threw in 2016 inspired by Sofia Coppola's 2006 film, Marie Antoinette.

"We wanted it to feel as if we were inviting guests into our home - nothing too studied", Carole Ghosn told Town & Country magazine a few months later when it published photos of the wedding.

The auto maker said that additional checks were being carried out into the deal agreed by Mr Ghosn, who had been chairman of the Renault-Nissan alliance as well as chief executive and chairman of Renault.

In a statement, the Chateau de Versailles said Renault had signed a 2.3-million-euro sponsorship deal with the palace in June 2016, a few months before Ghosn's wedding.

Renault said it had uncovered that Ghosn received a sum of €50,000 ($57,000) as part of a sponsorship deal with the Palace of Versailles outside Paris.

Designer 'desperate' to find NYFW performer after Kanye imposter scam
The Blast also reports that an additional $150,000 was wired to Burundi Partlow Consulting, which is a Chicago-based company. The publication notes that the identity theft was undertaken by one of Kanye's former friends and an associate of G.O.O.D.

"The elements gathered so far require additional checks to be carried out", it said, adding that "Renault has made a decision to bring these facts to the attention of the judicial authorities". His downfall has triggered tension within their car-making alliance, partly because Nissan moved fast to replace him while Renault dragged its feet. Mr Ghosn remains in detention in Tokyo with limited opportunity to respond publicly to allegations against him. The carmaker alerted French authorities and the prosecutors' office has yet to decide about starting an investigation.

Renault started investigating Ghosn's past activities after he was arrested in November in Tokyo, where he has been charged with falsifying financial reports and breach of trust.

In a separate development, Nissan has said that it is also going to include the undeclared remuneration of 9 billion yen ($82 million) to Ghosn in its earnings report next week but that it will also freeze payments to the former executive, The Japan Times says. It's obvious: it's a story of betrayal.

The affair has also exposed rifts between Renault and Nissan, which some analysts say was bristling at Ghosn's efforts to bring the two automakers' operations even closer together.

Renault holds a 43-percent stake in Nissan along with voting rights, while the latter owns only a 15-percent non-voting stake in the former.
