A Sentinelle security operation auto is burning in front of the Eiffel Tower during a demonstration as the "Yellow Vests" protesters take to the streets for the 13th consecutive Saturday.

The protest in the French capital has passed the National Assembly and will end up near the Eiffel Tower.

A police source, however, said numbers were higher, with 21,000 demonstrators taking part in rallies outside Paris.

Police fired tear gas in Paris to disperse demonstrators, some of whom threw debris at riot police hunkered down in front of the National Assembly.

A "yellow vest" demonstrator lost his hand during clashes with police outside the main parliament building in Paris yesterday, witnesses told AFP, during a 13th weekend of anti-government protests across France.

Some of the paramedics served as a barrier to stop media and demonstrators from getting too close.

But a YouGov poll of 1,037 people issued on Thursday suggested that almost two out of three people in France (64 per cent) still support the movement.
