  • British Defense Chief Urges Bolstering Military Post-Brexit, Warns Russia Of 'Costs'

Britain's new F-35 jets will be able to deploy "drone swarms" to "confuse and overwhelm" enemy forces by the end of the year, Gavin Williamson has said.

Gavin Williamson will warn in a speech that Britain must stand up to those who "flout global law".

The announcement was made by Gavin Williamson, the Defence Secretary, in a speech on Monday at the Royal United Services Institute, a Defence and Security think-tank.

And he will also insist NATO must be prepared to face up to the new threat posed by a "resurgent" Moscow following the collapse of the US-Russia intermediate-range nuclear forces treaty.

'Such action from Russian Federation must come at a cost'.

"To talk but fail to act risks our nation being seen as little more than a paper tiger", he will add.

Beijing ‘angered’ as 2 United States warships enter S. China Sea - spokeswoman
Asked if the ships' passage would impact trade talks, Hua said that "a series of US tricks" showed what Washington was thinking. The so-called freedom-of-navigation patrols were reported earlier Monday by Reuters, which cited an unidentified US official.

'Significantly, British and American F-35s will be embedded in the carrier's air wing, enhancing the reach and lethality of our forces and reinforcing the fact that the U.S. remains our very closest of partners'.

Williamson, in his speech, will outline plans to adopt a stronger military stance after Brexit, including sending its new aircraft carrier to the Pacific and investing in enhanced offensive cybercapabilities.

Setting out how he plans to spend some of the £1.8 billion extra funding for defence secured previous year, Mr Williamson will promise a "very significant additional investment" in cyber capabilities including improving the UK's ability to carry out its own online attacks and protect against hackers.

Mr Williamson said yesterday: "To complement leading edge technology from the F-35, I have chose to use the Transformation Fund to develop swarm squadrons of network-enabled drones capable of confusing and overwhelming enemy air defences".

'A moment when we must strengthen our global presence, enhance our lethality, and increase our mass'.
