BEREA, Ohio - Cleveland Browns general manager John Dorsey believes in second chances, so he'll give running back Kareem Hunt the chance to reset his career with the team.
Hunt was not arrested for the incident, which occurred last February. And is Dorsey confident he really knows Hunt as a person?
Chubb recorded 998 rushing yards with eight touchdowns and another 149 receiving yards and two touchdowns in his first season. They can do so without having to wonder if the phone will ring in the middle of the night with news of trouble for Hunt.
In his statement, Dorsey said, "We believe he deserves a second chance but certainly with the understanding that he has to go through critical and essential steps to become a performing member of this organization".
Dorsey drafted Hunt in 2017 and feels the former Toledo back's contrition is genuine. "He is extremely remorseful for his actions". "And secondly, just as importantly, he is undergoing and is committed to necessary professional treatment and a plan that has been clearly laid out". Even though he will be 28 years old and entering the final year of his contract, the reality is the offensive line was a bigger problem for the Texans and would be a still prohibitive element that would curtail any production a big-play back like Hunt would provide.
Hunt has not been criminally charged but is on the commissioner's exempt list, making the OH native ineligible to play or practice.

Hunt, a 2017 third-round pick out of Toledo who starred at Cleveland-area Willoughby South High School, led the National Football League with 1,327 rushing yards in his rookie season and was well on his way to another big year in 2018, amassing 824 rushing yards, 378 receiving yards and 14 total touchdowns as a key cog in the NFL's highest-powered offense, before it came to an abrupt halt when video of the incident surfaced.
In 2016 Dorsey also drafted Tyreek Hill, who pleaded guilty to domestic assault and battery on his girlfriend in a 2014 incident; she was pregnant at the time. Cleveland, after all, already have Nick Chubb on the roster, and he averaged 5.2 yards per carry last season.
In 11 games with the Chiefs in 2018, Hunt totaled 824 rushing yards and 7 scores on the ground in addition to his 378 yards and 7 scores through the air. If Hunt returns to playing like he did in Kansas City, then he will be described as "troubled" and announcers will vaguely refer to "off-the-field behavior" during broadcasts. Matt knows more about him as a person. Hunt and Johnson can be used in a variety of ways, but teams have a hard time finding the carries and snaps for three backs. The decision to sign him so quickly, however, indicates otherwise.
