  • Duke of Edinburgh car crash victim feels 'safer' now he's given up his licence

Prince Philip, 97, is voluntarily giving up his driver's license after getting into a auto crash last month.

The 97-year-old has voluntarily surrendered his driving licence but witnesses fears a "deal" has been done.

Prince Philip has chose to stop driving at the age of 97, less than a month after he was involved in a collision that left two women injured, Buckingham Palace said Saturday.

Town & Country reports Buckingham Palace issued the following statement: "After careful consideration the Duke of Edinburgh has taken the decision to voluntarily surrender his driving license".

She has been staying at Sandringham since December 20, 2018 and traditionally spends around six or seven weeks there, before returning to Buckingham Palace for her official duties.

On Jan. 17, he was involved in a collision on a crossroads near the Queen's Norfolk estate.

Philip escaped without injury on January 17 when the Land Rover he was driving flipped in a collision with a auto close to the royals' Sandringham residence in eastern England.

Philip, who suggested low sun had affected his sight for the crash, also received a warning from police for driving without a seatbelt two days after the crash. "Ms Fairweather told the Sunday Mirror that ".the roads will be safer" now that the Duke of Edinburgh won't be driving on them.

The force said a file on the investigation into the crash last month had been passed to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). The duke walked away from the accident unharmed, but Town & Country reports the driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident "sustained cuts in the crash, and the passenger broke her wrist".

She said: "That doesn't sound like normal treatment, purely because of the fact it is a Royal - which I don't think is fair at all".
