NSW Police said the confrontation happened on Wednesday when the 43-year-old man got out of his vehicle in the driveway of his home in Nimbin, in the north of the state.

A man avoided hospital after being shot at by an alleged bow-and-arrow wielding assailant, with his smart phone absorbing the blow.

At about 9am, the victim drove into his driveway on Nimbin Road and got out of his auto.

A 43-year-old man stopped his auto at his driveway at a Nimbin property on Wednesday morning and noticed a man he knew, reportedly armed with the archery gear, NSW police said.

He got out his auto and tried to take a picture of the man who then allegedly fired an arrow at him.

The resident held up his mobile phone to take a photograph of the armed man, who then engaged the bow and was ready to fire.

Sadly, his screen protector was no match for the sharpened arrow.

While the arrow also hit the resident in the chin, it only left a small laceration which required no medical treatment.

A 39-year old man was arrested at the scene and charged, police said.

The man was taken to Nimbin police station where he was charged with assault and damage to property.
