"But it is a bailable offence".

Ahmedabad Police Commissioner AK Singh also issued a notification on Wednesday banning both the games in the city, citing similar reasons.

"As part of a special drive, police sub-inspector ND Damor arrested the six youths who were playing the game at tea stalls and fast-food joints outside a college on Kalavad road on Tuesday", said Rajkot taluka police inspector VS Vanzara to Indian Express.

Rajkot City Police explained in a tweet that the ban (issued by the Gujarat state government) was being enforced because the game - along with the Momo challenge (which has been debunked as little more than an urban legend) - encourages violence among young people who play it.

In January 2019, the Gujarat government had issued a circular asking schools to enforce a ban on PUBG.

What makes the arrests more "interesting" is the fact that players were so engaged in playing PUBG that they didn't notice the police team approaching them.

Six of the ten arrested were under-graduate students according ot reports following the official ban that took place on March 6th.

Police in the western Indian state of Gujarat detained 10 teenagers for breaking a newly announced ban on playing the online video game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) - the forerunner of global smash Fortnite.

Last week, Surat, Rajkot, and Vadodara placed a ban on the mobile version of PUBG Corporation's popular battle royale game. They were taken into custody after they were found playing the PUBG game. The arrests were made after police checked the phones of the accused to see if the PUBG game was running and the cops also checked the history to nab the violators.

"Due to these games, the education of children and youth are being affected and it affects the behaviour, manners, speech and development of the youth and children", an order by local police dated March 6, said.
