More than $2 million has been raised from more than 31,000 donors on a givealittle page in support of Christchurch shooting victims.

Earlier that day, at least 49 people were shot dead in two Christchurch mosques.

A number of other crowd-funding pages are popping up, including one created by the Canterbury Muslim Community Trust that has raised over $43,000 and one created by Auckland charity Handshake People that has raised almost $25,000 by 8.05am today.

Charity crowdfunding page Givealittle has raised nearly $2 million AUD for the families.

Chief Executive at Victim Support Kevin Tso says, "all donations received will be ringfenced to support the dozens of families who have been bereaved and many more injured by yesterday's horrific shootings".

Last October, a crowdfunding campaign called "Muslims Unite for Pittsburgh Synagogue" raised more than $200,000 in four days for the Pittsburgh shooting victims.

The New York Times , which first reported the sentencing, said White had been given two court hearings, on March 6 and March 9. A fourth, former Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Robert Levinson, has been missing in Iran since 2007.

Victims Support stressed on their Givealittle page that all the funds donated will go directly to "support and resources for people affected by the Christchurch shootings and their family members".

All proceeds will help with the immediate, short-term needs of the grieving families. "No amount of koha will make up for the lives we've lost, but I hope it will help a little bit moving on and remembering those we love", another wrote.

A separate online donations page also set up on Victim Support's own website, after overload on the official Givealittle page, has raised over $117,000.

On Twitter, Mayor Bill Peduto tweeted at Lianne Dalziel, the mayor of Christchurch, saying, "The people of Pittsburgh are with you and our brothers and sisters in Christchurch".

Both fundraisers were set up by the NZ Council of Victim Support Groups, the government's primary provider of support services for people affected by homicide. "Let's remain united as one nation!"

"This money is being ring-fenced and is NOT for Victim Support's regular operating costs", the Givealittle page stated.
