  • Johnny Manziel reportedly signs deal to join AAF

Johnny Manziel is headed back to the United States to play football.

The 2012 Heisman Trophy victor will go through the AAF waiver system, per Schefter, after the San Antonio Commanders renounced his college allocation rights. The Memphis Express now boast a 1-5 record, and the Salt Lake Stallions hold a 2-4 record - making them the first two teams in the league's waiver process. Every team in the AAF will now have a chance to sign him in reverse order of the current standings, with the Memphis Express (1-5) getting first priority. He spent two seasons with the Cleveland Browns after being picked up in the 2014 National Football League draft, but went 2-6 as their starting quarterback.

He played just two seasons with the team before he was released.

Memphis, which lost 22-9 to Salt Lake on Saturday, has already used Christian Hackenberg, Zach Mettenberger and former Troy standout Brandon Silvers at quarterback this season.

The 2012 Heisman Trophy victor at Texas A&M had his contract with the CFL terminated this offseason.
