Maryland State Police arrested an Anne Arundel County man in Ocean City on Friday morning who was wanted by Florida officials after he allegedly attacked a federally protected pelican in the Florida Keys.

In the video, 31-year-old William Hunter Hardesty, is seen trying to grab a brown pelican - Louisiana's state bird - at Florida's Key West Historic Seaport.

Those folks called the police, and Maryland troopers arrested him at the hotel at 9 a.m., according to a Maryland State Police press release. He is now being held in the Worcester County Detention Center, awaiting extradition to Florida.

According to the state police, a video showing a man in Florida luring and then jumping on a pelican in water had been posted on social media.

"Troopers were told the individual was bragging to them about being wanted for feeding and tackling a pelican in the Florida Keys", authorities said.

Florida investigators were not amused, and the FWC issued a 10-page warrant for his arrest on charges of animal cruelty to a migratory bird and intentionally feeding a pelican. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office was notified of the arrest and has initiated extradition proceedings.

Troopers confirmed the extraditable arrest warrant with Florida law enforcement. "They responded to the hotel and, after identifying Hardesty, arrested him without incident".
