Mastermind Behind College Admission Scam Reportedly Faked Ethnicity of Students On Applications

Two class action lawsuits have already been filed in response to Operation Varsity Blues, the nationwide investigation of cheating on college admissions. "I'm now outraged and hurt because I feel that my son, my only child, was denied access to a college not because he failed to work and study hard enough but because wealthy individuals felt that it was ok to lie, cheat, steal and bribe their children's way into a good college".

On Tuesday, a number of people, including actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin, were charged with bribing a man by the name of William Singer to get their kids into college. The court filing does not specify the colleges where her son applied or when he submitted his applications.

Singer previously pleaded guilty to running the scheme that relied upon a number of illegal activities - including bribing athletic coaches and hiring individuals to take tests for students - to get the children of TV star Felicity Huffman, former Pimco CEO Douglas Hodge, newly departed Hercules Capital CEO Manuel Henriquez and others into top-ranked USA universities.

This isn't the first lawsuit to be filed in connection with the criminal probe.

Blackhawks build big lead, hold off Leafs
The Philadelphia Flyers and Toronto Maple Leafs meet Tuesday in National Hockey League action at the Scotiabank Arena. The improving Chicago Blackhawks are headed in the right direction, although their latest win was a wild ride.

Separately, two Stanford University students last Wednesday filed a federal class action suit against Stanford, University of Southern California (USC), University of California, Los Angeles, University of San Diego, University of Texas at Austin, Wake Forest University, Yale University and Georgetown University.

The students allege that the rigged system denied them a fair chance to matriculate at the elite institutions and could tarnish their degrees from Stanford.

Federal prosecutors allege that some parents paid between $200,000 and $6.5 million to get their children into college.

In phone conversations with parents secretly recorded by agents, Singer boasted that in just two years, he had helped more than 850 students of the wealthy and powerful to lie their way into colleges. As of now, Singer has pleaded guilty and is looking at serving up to 65 years in prison. Authorities have said that in many cases the teenagers were not aware of what was going on.
