Roger Federer of Switzerland waves to the crowd during a ribbon cutting ceremony on new stadium court at Hard Rock Stadium prior to play in the first round of the Miami Open at Miami Open Tennis Complex.

He received a wild card into the Miami draw and advanced to a third-round meeting with American Frances Tiafoe, a 7-6 (8/6), 7-6 (7/5) victor over Miomir Kecmanovic.

Roger Federer briefly seemed headed for the exit but instead advanced to the third round by rallying past qualifier Radu Albot 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.

Federer, beaten by Dominic Thiem in last week's BNP Paribas Open final, smashed 14 aces and broke Albot twice to advance to the third round but it was far from plain sailing for the 37-year-old against the world number 46.
