  • Pres. Trump: media barely mentioning Mueller report showed no collusion

As the lead up to the 2016 election demonstrated, polls are not always conclusive, but the data offered a glimpse into how the Trump administration is weathering the controversy surrounding the Thursday release of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's redacted report on his almost two-year investigation into Russian election meddling and allegations that Trump obstructed justice.

The number of Americans who approve of President Trump dropped 3 percentage points - to the lowest level of the year - following the release of a special counsel report detailing Russian interference in the election, a Reuters/Ipsos poll said Friday.

Trump, who repeatedly railed against the Mueller probe during its two-year investigation into Russian Federation interference in the 2016 election, declared he was "having a good day" when the report finally landed on Thursday.

"We're in a fight for the soul of our democracy", he said.

Mitt Romney said Friday he was "sickened" by the conduct of President Donald Trump detailed in the Mueller report, which the one-time presidential candidate described as "a sobering revelation".

"Because I never agreed to testify, it was not necessary for me to respond to statements made in the "Report" about me, some of which are total bullshit & only given to make the other person look good (or me to look bad)", Trump tweeted on Friday morning as he waited out a rainstorm in Florida before proceeding to his golf course for a round with conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh.

The 448-page report's release has sparked an internal debate within the Democratic Party on how to move forward.

"Let me assure you that whatever the issue and challenge we face, the Congress of the United States will honour its oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States to protect our democracy", she told reporters.

"The Fake News Media is doing everything possible to stir up and anger the pols and as many people as possible seldom mentioning the fact that the Mueller Report had as its principle conclusion the fact that there was NO COLLUSION WITH RUSSIA", the president said in a tweet.

Trump, meanwhile, has spent the last few days tweeting his disdain for the special counsel's report, continuing to characterize it as a smear campaign meant to undermine the legitimacy of his presidency.

"I get it", she said.

More than 30 Democratic representatives, many of whom are in their first term, represent districts that supported Trump in 2016. They said it was inadequate.

Democratic leaders are walking a delicate line on what to do with Mueller's findings.

The president also tweeted out a video detailing the numbers he says are behind the Mueller investigation - including the number of days and amount of subpoenas.

"As we review this report, I also remain committed to continuing my efforts to bring down the cost of health care, invest in our infrastructure and clean up the mess in Washington", Bustos said.
