  • The inclusion of former captain Asghar Afghan and the return of the fast bowler Hamid Hassan were the big news as the Afghanistan Cricket Board on Monday announced their 15-man squad for the International Cricket Council Men's Cricket Wor

He has, however, made a dramatic comeback to the squad, although his fitness remains under scrutiny. As per the selection committee, the selection process was conducted on the basis of performances and fitness of the players over the last six months. After sacking Afghan from captaincy ACB named Rahmat Shah as the skipper of Test format, Gulbadin Naib as the skipper of ODI format and Rashid Khan as the skipper of T20 format. Gulbadin Naib will lead the squad at the cricket's biggest tournament. Hamid Hasan, another speedster, who last played a limited-overs worldwide fixture way back in July 2016 against Ireland in Belfast, staked his claim back into the national setup.

Former captain Asghar Afghan, who was axed earlier this month as captain, has been included in the squad along with fast bowler Hamid Hassan, who last played the sport at a senior level in 2017.

As far as Afghanistan's spin department is concerned, the national selectors have chose to stick to the trio of Rashid Khan, Mujeeb ur Rahman and Mohammad Nabi, while Shinwari and Rahmat Shah would serve as part-time options. "However, we will take into account his form and fitness during upcoming practice matches", Ahmadzai said about the veteran Hassan's comeback. "The mission is to play inspirational cricket in the tournament; I know there are strong teams but we will do our level best to achieve our goals".
