It is extremely rare for an officer to be found guilty of third degree murder, which means he had a "depraved mind".

A jury of 10 men and two women got the case Monday afternoon after three weeks of testimony.

A Minneapolis police officer was handcuffed and taken into custody immediately after being convicted of murder in the fatal shooting of an unarmed woman who approached his squad vehicle after calling emergency services.

Minneapolis police officer Mohamed Noor who shot dead Australian life coach Justine Damond has been found guilty of murder in the third degree and manslaughter in the second degree. Sentencing is scheduled for June 7.

The death of Damond, a 40-year-old life coach who was engaged to be married a month after the shooting, sparked outrage in both the USA and Australia. Noor showed no emotion, but his wife cried.

The revelation comes from Vodafone documents from 2009-2011, which Bloomberg received access to, as well as other sources inside Vodafone that were reportedly involved.

Attorneys for Noor, 33, argued that he was justified in using deadly force to protect himself and partner Matthew Harrity from a perceived threat.

Prosecutors leveraged Harrity's reaction against Noor.

The jury heard almost three weeks of testimony, including that of Noor himself, who gave his account for the first time publicly at trial. They played excerpts from body cameras worn by responding officers that revealed many officers turning them on and off at will; one officer could be heard on his camera at one point telling Noor to "keep your mouth shut until you have to say anything to anybody". Noor, a two-year veteran at the time of the shooting, had pleaded not guilty to the charges. Noor and Harrity both testified that a loud sound on their squad startled them, and that Noor fired from the passenger seat through Harrity's open driver's side window about 11:40 p.m. Noor and Harrity should have considered whether Damond was the 911 caller, the subject of Damond's 911 call or a woman from a previous 911 call placed earlier in the night by a neighbor, prosecutors have said.
