Warner, Smith feature as Australia beat New Zealand

Former captain Steve Smith and David Warner were included in Australia's side for an unofficial World Cup warm-up against New Zealand in Brisbane on Monday, the pair's first worldwide hit-out after 12-month bans for ball-tampering.

It was his first match for Australia after a 1-year gap following 12 months ban for Newlands ball-tampering scandal.

At the time of writing this report, Steve Smith is batting at the middle with the skipper Aron Finch.

Warner and Smith are set to bat at number three and four respectively in Brisbane.

Warner hammered 39 off 43 balls before falling to leg-spinner Todd Astle attempting a reverse sweep.

Batting at four, former skipper Smith was less assured with the bat, scoring 22 off 43 balls, but made an early impression in the field when he dived for a superb one-handed catch to remove Tom Latham for 13 off the bowling of Jason Behrendorff.

The Australian XI is full of World Cup squad members while in contrast the New Zealand side features just five players who will make the trip to England and Wales at the end of the month.

In starkly different scenes to what they should expect in their June 1 World Cup opener in England, Australia were clapped onto the field by the healthy crowd on Monday as one fan yelled out "welcome back Smithy".
