  • Bulls No 10 Handre Pollard will join fellow Springboks Lood de Jager and Jesse Kriel in playing outside of South Africa next year

Springboks first five-eighth Handre Pollard has confirmed he will leave South Africa so he can reportedly earn nearly three times his salary in France.

The Springbok first five-eighth will head to French Top 14 side Montpellier.

But while Pollard's exit is permanent, the Bulls are hopeful to have Snyman back for the 2021 season, with Meyer saying they were looking at negotiating a similar contract to what All Blacks lock Sam Whitelock has signed with New Zealand Rugby.

Blue Bulls Company CEO Alfons Meyer said: "Handré has been a true servant for us for six years".

"He will be missed for sure, but we can not fault his decision to continue his career in France".

The Bulls and South African rugby as a whole look set to be hit by a huge player exodus after the World Cup, as a raft of Springboks have announced moves to Europe or Japan.

Netwerk24 reported that Steyn has signed a two-year deal with the Bulls after a lengthy stint at Stade Francais in Paris.

Steyn represented the Bulls in 124 games between 2008 and 2013 and is still the leading all-time points scorer for the franchise. "We wish him well".

"He knows the culture and passion of the Bulls as well as anyone and will no doubt contribute massively, not only on the field, but also off it". He follows in the footsteps of Jesse Kriel (Japan) and Lood de Jager (Sale), who have already confirmed they will leave South Africa after the World Cup.

They have relaxed the eligibility rules for Boks playing overseas, but said they will strictly enforce the global window and make sure leading players return from their clubs for tests.
