Three activists remained hanging off the bridge on ropes but were removed and arrested by 9.30am.

Seven people were arrested on the walkway of the bridge along with two others who tried to leave.

At least 13 people have been arrested by Australian police after environmental activists abseiled from Sydney's Harbour Bridge.

The Government have also had their input on this morning's protest, with Prime Minister Scott Morrison saying that taking action on climate was "important", but said protesters needed to be considerate of others.

They unfurled banners emblazoned with "100% renewables" and "make coal history" as they dangled beneath the bridge.

Greenpeace Australia Pacific CEO David Ritter said six specialist trained climbers abseiled from the bridge to call for action on climate change. Australia is facing a climate emergency right now. Our political leaders must listen to those already affected by climate disaster and act.

One lane on the bridge was temporarily closed but re-opened minutes later and no traffic delays were caused.

A spokesperson from Greenpeace told 10 daily at Saturday's election is a "climate change election" and that neither side of politics has a comprehensive climate policy.

"Coal is the number one driver of climate change in Australia - we urgently need a plan to phase out coal power to be replaced by clean energy", he said.
