It Would Take Two Strikes to Win War Against Iran - US Senator

Tom Cotton said Tuesday the US could win a war with Iran in only "two strikes" amid simmering tensions between the two countries.

Comments by Cotton, an arch critic of the Iranian regime and the nuclear deal from which the Trump administration withdrew a year ago, coincide with the increasing escalation between the two countries.

While speaking to Margaret Hoover for the aptly named show 'Firing Line, ' the Arkansas senator said a war with Iran would not drag on for decades like the failed war with its neighbor, Iraq.

"Yes, two strikes", he replied. The US recently sent an aircraft carrier strike group close to Iran's borders, and reports suggest that the Pentagon planned to send up to 120,000 troops to the region to restrain Tehran. Instead, he claimed it would end after the "first strike and last strike".

The senator stressed, however, that he wasn't advocating military action against the Islamic Republic, but was simply explaining what Washington would do if the conflict escalates.

One of the reports said $5 billion of that was siphoned into real estate, forcing the costs of homes up by at least five per cent. The decision comes after a report last week revealed $7.4-billion of dirty money flowed through the province previous year .

Trump warned Iran on Monday afternoon that it will "suffer greatly" if the country does "anything" in the form of an attack, a remark that came in the wake of revelations that US military experts suggested "Iran or its proxies" damaged four commercial ships off the coast of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sunday.

The statement comes after the United States deployed an aircraft carrier strike group and a bomber task force to the Persian Gulf last week, with National Security Adviser John Bolton claiming that any attack on the USA or allied interests would be met with "unrelenting force".

The senator said he was not calling for war, just saying that the U.S. would win easily.

"War is never inevitable".
