Europe's domestic leagues have rejected current proposals for a near-closed Champions League, saying it would benefit only a few "rich and dominant clubs".

Plans for a major revamp of the tournament are being considered by the European Club Association (ECA), including the possibility of increasing the number of group stage games.

The statement comes after a board meeting in Warsaw, with European Leagues criticising the proposals from the European Clubs Association.

The French Football League (LFP) and the German Football League (DFL) have signalled their opposition to proposed Champions League changes.

The French league said clubs unanimously agreed to present an alternative option to UEFA, which has said talks about which changes to make will take about a year.

The ECA wants 24 of 32 Champions League teams to automatically retain their places based on a high placing in expanded eight-team groups, starting from the 2024-25 season.

"The now discussed concept of the European Club Association would have unacceptable consequences for the national leagues in Europe and should therefore not be implemented in this form", said DFL CEO Christian Seifert.

"We must not allow the traditional national leagues to become less attractive for millions of people across the continent", he said.

The Swiss was more aggressive and he efficiently defended the second serve before seizing the only chance on the return he got. He's a champion of the sport, one of the greatest we'll ever see, I think he will pass Federer [in terms of grand slam wins].

Yet Seifert said the DFL were "convinced" that UEFA president Aleksandr Ceferin understood the importance of the domestic leagues, and would show "foresight" in the reform process.

"We need to have a movement because we have many clubs who are very critical or against the vision presented by Uefa, and we have the leagues and we also know that the fans' organisations have expressed serious concerns about such a vision", he said.

Bundesliga CEO Christian Seifert said Champions League changes "must not jeopardize the relevance and future" of European national leagues.

The LFP said that 32 of its members have voted against the proposal with three abstentions.

"In this respect, UEFA must come to an agreement with the European Leagues and the other stakeholders to safeguard the interests of all professional football clubs in Europe".

Fearing a loss of TV revenues for French football authorities and clubs, and an overcrowded match calendar, Le Graet said a closed-off Champions League would undermine the country's domestic championship.

"The presently discussed concept... would have unacceptable consequences for the national leagues in Europe and should therefore not be implemented in this form", he said.
