The US House Intelligence Committee published transcripts of the private interviews between Cohen, lawmakers and a member of the Trump team, The New York Times reported Monday.

US President Donald Trump's former attorney Michael Cohen appears to be the US House's main source of dirt on the president and his lawyers.

In an apparent attempt to deflect attention away from Cohen's testimony and its implication for Trump, the top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Doug Collins, released transcripts of interviews with former Attorney General Loretta Lynch and several other current or former Justice Department officials, including many who played key roles in the Hillary Clinton email investigation. The vote to release them, which was held behind closed doors, was 12-7.

The idea was ultimately rejected, but Cohen's admission contradicts his vehement testimony to the House Oversight Committee in public a day earlier, when he insisted he'd never asked for a pardon.

Adam Schiff, the chairman of the committee, told the Post that they are continuing to look into "whether anyone participated in the false testimony that Cohen gave to this committee".

The committee is also voting to release certain exhibits that Cohen provided, though it didn't specify what documents would be made public.

Those transcripts have yet to be released publicly, as they were sent to the intelligence community for a declassification review. Private interviews with the Intelligence Committee followed his testimony. He claims he made the false statements because he was loyal to Trump. Cohen pleaded guilty past year to campaign finance violations, lying to Congress and other crimes.

The vote came nearly a week after it was revealed that the panel has been investigating whether attorneys connected to Trump and his family helped to obstruct the investigation by editing or shaping Cohen's testimony, according to The Hill.

President Donald Trump's former personal lawyer Michael Cohen alleges that the President's attorney Jay Sekulow knew that Cohen's claim to Congress that the Trump Tower Moscow project ended in January 2016 was false, Cohen told the House Intelligence Committee in March.

Chairman Schiff conducted an investigation into possible obstruction of justice by Trump's lawyers - one of a number of concurrent investigations House Democrats are waging against the United States president.

Mueller's team wrote in its report that Cohen told one of Trump's personal lawyers after an Federal Bureau of Investigation raid on his home that "he had been a loyal lawyer and servant" and "he was in an uncomfortable position and wanted to know what was in it for him".

The White House accused the panel of "overreaching" and trying to score political points ahead of the upcoming 2020 elections, The Hill notes.

Democrats have pointed to Cohen's testimony as a need to further investigate the President, his businesses and his team.
