À 14h45 locales (11h15 heure française), le BJP était en tête du comptage des voix dans 299 circonscriptions sur 542 sièges de députés à la chambre basse du parlement, d'après le site de la commission électorale. Aucun siège n'a encore été déclaré officiellement. "Ensemble nous bâtirons une Inde forte et inclusive", a-t-il ajouté.

Le grand vainqueur des législatives en Inde, c'est bien Narendra Modi, le Premier ministre sortant. - Victoire sans conteste pour Modi.

Les résultats de ces élections confirment également que le BJP conserve ses principaux États - le cœur de l'hindi, le Gujarat et le Maharashtra - tout en enregistrant de nouvelles victoires au Bengale, à Odisha et dans le nord-est de la Grande Péninsule.
