Huawei trademarks its ‘Hongmeng’ Android and Windows Operating System replacement

Apple is extremely likely to retake the title of the world's second-largest smartphone maker by both shipments and sales after losing that spot to Huawei in 2018, according to a new report authored by Strategy Analytics and Fubon Research.

This comes as Google cut off Huawei devices from its Android OS following a US order banning the sale of American software and components to the company.
"Huawei may be wiped out of the Western European smartphone market next year if it loses access to Google", said Linda Sui, director of wireless smartphone strategies at Strategy Analytics. And China says that it won't come to the negotiating table until Huawei is off the list.
Huawei shipped around 208 million smartphones in 2018, accounting for almost a third of the global smartphone market, according to several industry trackers.
But experts are not buying the company's claim.
Huawei would potentially need to lay off thousands of people and "disappear as a global player for some time", said Stewart Randall, who tracks the chip industry at Shanghai-based consultancy Intralink.
The Huawei-manufactured Nexus 6P has also been removed from the site, though it was never part of the Recommended program - only the "Enterprise Solutions Directory" that contains thousands more devices. Now, because of this, a product comparison website called PriceSpy has reportedly informed significantly lower click rates in the past four days searching for Huawei smartphones.
