Philomena Lynott, the mother of beloved Thin Lizzy frontman Phil Lynott, has passed away at the age of 88.

Lynott had been battling cancer in recent years and was described as "a formidable and brilliant woman" by Hot Press editor Niall Stokes, who said it "was a joy to work with her" on My Boy.

Her book, My Boy, written with Jackie Hayden, was a two-time number one best-seller and told her own extraordinary life story. "I am really proud that we were able to participate in telling her remarkable story".

After the show, Hetfield posted a picture of himself kissing the Phil Lynott statue in Dublin, adding: "Much respect and love to my favourite songwriter, Mr Phil Lynott".
