The Trump administration is expected to launch raids on up to 2,000 migrant families facing deportation orders in up to 10 USA cities including Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago and Miami, local media reported Friday.

US immigration authorities will commence an operation at the direction of US President Donald Trump on Sunday to begin rounding up almost 2,000 illegal immigrants residing in the United States, media reported.

The Miami Herald couldn't confirm whether plans have changed.

President Donald Trump says he is delaying a nationwide sweep to deport people living in the US illegally. But the new normal in Democrat-run urban centers is something different and contrary to the rule of law. These are people that are supposed to go back to their home country.

Lawmakers have been at loggerheads over how to solve the situation at the border with Mexico that turned into humanitarian crisis as thousands of people from Central American countries came seeking asylum.

The Washington Post reported on Friday that the operation is slated to launch on Sunday and is expected to target up to 2,000 families facing deportation orders in as many as 10 USA cities, including Houston, Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles.

The president was tweeting in defense of the raids as recently as this morning. "It is my hope that before Sunday, leaders of the faith-based community and other organizations that respect the dignity and worth of people will call upon the president to stop this brutal action which will tear families apart and inject terror into our communities".

Earlier this week, ICE acting Director Mark Morgan had told reporters that such an operation would soon take place, but had not specified when. The Obama and Trump administrations have targeted families in previous operations. "And we have a final order which means a person has gone through the court process".

Still, city mayors have spoken out against the expected raids.

The Trump Campaign did not respond to a request for comment on the Vice President's trip to Miami, ICE operations or the "Latinos for Trump" rollout. "Further, I reiterated that CPD will not cooperate with or facilitate any ICE enforcement actions". Time is needed for comprehensive immigration reform.

Cities to be targeted in the raid include New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and Houston - all Democratic controlled and many of which forbid local law enforcement from helping ICE.

"Los Angeles will always stand with our immigrant brothers and sisters, and our law enforcement officers will never participate in these actions", Garcetti said in a statement. "And we will continue to be a city that builds relationships, not walls", Turner said in a statement. "We are a city of immigrants". We agree that criminals, like risky gang members who came here illegally, should be deported immediately.

"The city does not try to do ICE's job, nor does it try to impede ICE".

"We know our neighbors are anxious", New York Mayor Bill de Blasio posted on Twitter. Please know your city is here for you. The removals would impact individuals who had previously received deportation orders, but continued living in the United States.

"I am deeply concerned about reports that the Trump Administration plans to target migrant families for deportation - including families in Baltimore", Cummings wrote. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of Trump's native NY. But if you notice they're generally high crime cities, if you look at Chicago they're fighting it. Minneapolis officials are "prohibited from taking any action to detect or apprehend people based exclusively on their immigration status".

"When you say you're going to go arrest millions of people, that has a chilling effect on the cooperation".
