  • Baidu co-founder and CEO Robin Li reacts after a young man approached him spilled liquid over his head and walked away during Baidu Create 2019 in Beijing

Chinese tech billionaire Robin Li was doused in water during a freaky incident at an AI conference in Beijing, China, on Wednesday.

A person poured a bottle of water over Baidu Inc.

After a few moments of shocked silence, Li asked the interloper in English, "What's your problem?"

He then went on with the lecture.

After the incident, Baidu said on Weibo that somebody wanted to "pour cold water" on the development of AI, but the curious action won't change company policy.

In 2016, the company faced criticism when a student with cancer died after seeking a treatment advertised on Baidu. Later, Baidu said on Sina Weibo, the Chinese equivalent to Twitter, "As everyone can see, some unexpected things can happen on the road to artificial intelligence".

The FCA's statement added: "As with our work on the wider CFD and binary options markets, we will act when we see poor products being sold to retail consumers".

The man, whose motive was unknown, was quickly taken away by security.

Li, who is the CEO of Chinese search engine Baidu and has a net worth of $9.6 billion, reacted calmly to the protester, asking: "What's your problem?"

Li's soaking sparked a lot of chatter on social media with some users making light of the incident.

It appeared to catch Li off guard and he stood stunned and unmoving for a second as the water poured down.

China's biggest search engine site was widely criticised last month for promoting its own results and low-quality articles on Baijiahao - the firm's news aggregation platform which publishes content from other sites over news from other channels, reports TechNode. The technology company, which is suffering from the slowing growth of the Chinese economy, reported its first quarterly loss since 2005 in May.
