USA and European officials are in talks on how to move beyond the current impasse in trade talks, namely whether agriculture should be included in any agreement, White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow told reporters on Tuesday.

Kudlow told an event hosted by CNBC that progress was being made on USA trade talks with both the European Union and Japan, but gave no details.

Kudlow said the two sides had remained in dialogue for the past year, although no conclusions had been reached.

"There are no miracles here", Kudlow told reporters at the White House. "There was headway last winter and spring, then it stopped".

"Both sides will continue these talks as appropriate", the official said in an email, declining to provide details on what was discussed and the next steps for talks.

The negotiations pick up after a two-month hiatus, but a year since a tit-for-tat tariff battle began between the two countries. Washington wants Beijing to address what USA officials see as decades of unfair and illegal trading practices.
