  • Former Louisville players help pay funeral bill for Kentucky great Jared Lorenzen

Weighing in at 260 pounds during his Kentucky career and nicknamed the "Hefty Lefty", Lorenzen gained fame through his size and quarterback play for a program that peaked at just seven wins for a season during his career. Of course, some things are much bigger than the hate people have for their rivals. That includes those who wear red and black, and typically cheer against United Kingdom at every chance.

Former U of L offensive lineman Jamon Brown, who like Lorenzen played for the New York Giants in the National Football League, is donating $5,000 through his foundation. Through his foundation, he's making a contribution to help pay for Lorenzen's funeral costs. The current Atlanta Falcons player told Forbes magazine he plans to give $5,000 to help cover the cost of the former quarterback's funeral.

"I guess you can say he was a legend and in the state of Kentucky, and for me, it's important to pay respect to those who came before me, whether they played for the University of Kentucky or Louisville", Brown said.

"The rivalry between the schools is intense, and it's great, but at the end of the day, all that doesn't matter".

In addition to Brown's donation, two other former Louisville Cardinals - wide receiver Deion Brand and quarterback Chris Redman - will also be donating an unspecified amount to the Lorenzen family. "What matters is that you remember that we're all in this game of life together, whether you played for the blue or the red".

The celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, July 10 from 2 p.m.to 6 p.m. followed by a burial service at 6 p.m.at St. Pius X Church in Edgewood, Kentucky.
