  • US singer Janet Jackson performed at the Jeddah World Fest in Saudi Arabia a concert unimaginable just two years ago

Saudi officials have said the Jeddah World Fest would be the region's biggest ever live musical event.

Minaj, known for her racy lyrics and provocative stage presence, faced particularly strong backlash for her involvement in a concert hosted by a country that restricts free speech, women's rights and LGBT rights.

Minaj was featured on the original bill but opted out of performing as a show of solidarity for the rights of women, the LGBTQ community, and freedom of expression.

The website for the event has been updated to include photos of the newly added acts alongside previously announced performers Liam Payne and Steve Aoki.

Over a week after Nicki Minaj pulled out of a music festival in Saudi Arabia, Future, 50 Cent and more have been added to the lineup. The Human Rights Foundation based in her home state issued an open letter to Minaj, in which they asked the Queen spitta to pull out of the show.

In addition to Hendrix and Fif, Chris Brown, Tyga and even Janet Jackson are also set to perform. It will take pace at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah.

The human rights foundation's president, Thor Halvorssen commented on the artists who were scheduled to perform, and said that they "constantly make public statements of support for LGBTQ+ rights, Black Lives Matter, and women's rights, except, apparently, when a seven-figure check is attached". Human rights organizations praised the rapper for her decision. The hypocrisy is breathtaking. A United Nations report last month cited "credible evidence" that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was involved in Khashoggi's killing.

The country has faced intense global scrutiny over its human rights record since last year's killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul and the ongoing trial of women activists. "Except it isn't", Halvorssen's statement read. "Saudi is engaged in a sophisticated campaign of distraction".
