Merkel feels solidarity for Congresswomen

  • German Chancellor Angela Merkel

She said that she distances herself from the comments and that she "stands in solidarity" with the "women [Trump] has targeted".

"People of very different nationalities have contributed to the strength of the American people, so these are. comments that very much run counter to this firm impression that I have", said Merkel.

Merkel was speaking at her annual summer news conference when she was pressed by a reporter about whether she "personally" feels any "solidarity" with the four congresswomen "who were attacked".

"If you're not happy here, you can leave".

Merkel, who turned 65 on Wednesday and has been in office since 2005, has suffered several bouts of shaking at public ceremonies in recent weeks that have stirred speculation about her health, though she has maintained she is fine.

However, German authorities refrained from commenting on the issue, simply stating that the Chancellor has no major health issues.

The tech company will also offer brands access to data that will track traffic patterns and other metrics. Even as it went bankrupt, the original Toys R Us accounted for about a fifth of toy sales in the U.S.

She later explained that her condition was caused by extreme heat, but a week later the shaking occurred again while the head of government was sitting in an office talking to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. After one such bout, a government official told Reuters that it was more a psychological issue as she tried desperately to avoid a repeat.

"I have said that 2021 will be the end of my political work and I hope that there is a life after that - and I would like to lead it in good health", she said.

Asked about the climate movement, Merkel welcomed the "acceleration" brought by the Swedish climate activist into politics, which had made politicians take a "more decisive approach" to the matter.

The chancellor, who has loomed large on the European stage since 2005, is trying to stage-manage a slow-motion exit from politics and in December gave up the chair of her Christian Democrats to protegee Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer.

"The party will decide who will be chancellor candidate", she said, adding that her Christian Democrats and their Bavarian sister party would do this together. That job was won by Merkel ally Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, who has struggled to establish her authority and this week entered Merkel's Cabinet as defense minister - a move widely interpreted as being meant to strengthen her claim to the top job.

"A price for Carbon dioxide emissions stimulates innovation", said Merkel, stressing that "we have to take people with us" and warning that "there is no free way" to protect the climate.
