Kostial's sorority at Ole Miss, Alpha Phi, issued a statement on Facebook: "The Alpha Phi community is grieving the loss of Ally Kostial, and we send our deepest sympathies to her family during this incredibly hard time".

"I'm not going to sugar coat it, he was pretty much a daddy's boy type", University of MS student Rex Ravita told KMOV.

Theesfeld was booked in the Lafayette County Detention Center by Lafayette County Sheriff Deputy Jarrett Bundren Monday at 3:45 p.m., according to the jail's docket.

Kostial's body was found Saturday morning by the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department during a routine patrol at Buford's Ridge, a remote area with a fishing camp known to both locals and college students about 20 miles from campus.

News partner KTVI in St. Louis reached out to two of Kostial's high school friends, who said she was involved in track and field and cheerleading at Lindbergh High School, and that she started a golf club in college.

"She quite possibly was the nicest human being that I've ever met", Pasco told the station.

Theesfeld, who attended the Ole Miss School of Business Administration, has been suspended, according to university spokesman Rod Guajardo.

"She spent her summers going on mission trips".

Citing the ongoing investigation, the sheriff's office declined to release more details.

She said it's shocking that she'll never get to see Kostial again.

Over the next 72 hours, police will be going door-to-door in Gillam and Fox Lake Cree Nation to find new information and tips. Manitoba RCMP have set up a highway check-stop and flooded the area with officers from the western provinces and Ontario.

Another surveillance video from a market about eight minutes away from Sardis Lake shows Kostial and Theesfeld together. He faced a judge in an initial court appearance Tuesday, a day after he was taken into custody at a gas station on South Parkway in Memphis.

Theesfeld was taken back to MS for questioning and was charged with murder on Tuesday.

Theesfeld's father, Daniel Theesfeld, a doctor in Texas, said in a statement to WMC that his son was innocent.

He said: "I know my son is innocent".

Investigators haven't said how they developed Theesfeld as a suspect or what the connection is between the two students. "But I would ask everybody to please give him the presumption of innocence until proven otherwise".

Late last night, Jordan Kostial, a family member of the victim, alluded on Facebook that Theesfeld acted out because Kostial rejected him romantically.

An Oxford Police Department spokesperson confirmed he was previously arrested in April 2017 for public intoxication and having a fake ID.

"It is too early for us to make any comments", Steve Farse told The Daily Beast on Thursday, though he did confirm there will be no bond hearing in the case this week. "We extend our deepest sympathy to her family, friends and classmates and stand ready to support them during this time". He has not yet entered a plea, though his father said he plans to plead not guilty.
