It's best to get away from the city lights and while you can see them any time after sunset the best time is from 3-5 am.
"Try to stay off your phone too, as looking at devices with bright screens will negatively affect your night vision and hence reduce the number of meteors you see". The Perseids and Alpha Capricornids are now active, and early this week, a fireball meteor was visible streaking across the night sky over New England. These meteors will be most visible to the Northern Hemisphere (unless you have super good eyesight, in which case, good for you). The Perseids are known for producing abnormally bright meteors with a fire ball effect.
"You'll have a better chance to see meteors when the moon is low in the west, or the brief period after it sets", NASA said.
This year, however, meteorologists warn that because there is also a full moon next week, its light will interfere with the visibility of the shower, making activity seem reduced from previous years. If you're absolutely not a morning person, you can still head out late in the evening and look for fireballs.
Everyone is invited to the Saturday, Aug. 10 meeting of the Davis Astronomy Club at Explorit Science Center (3141 Fifth St.in Davis) starting at 7:30 p.m. First, the moon will be almost full so bright moonlight will make it harder to see anything.

Named for its first two discoverers, Comet Swift-Tuttle then sped back out into space. If they get close enough to be attracted by Earth's gravity, they enter the upper atmosphere at high speeds, where they vaporize due to friction with air molecules. But we won't have to worry about Swift-Tuttle hitting Earth. Best of luck catching sight of those shooting stars!

But do not worry if you can not find the shower's namesake radiant - the Perseids will fly in all directions.
