Numerous cable cars plummeted to the ground near Vancouver's Howe Sound after a cable was cut early Saturday, in what the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said they believe was an act of vandalism.

Gondola staff say at around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday they received reports that the haul rope on the gondola had fallen, but that no staff or guests were on board.

The Sea to Sky Gondola, a sightseeing attraction in Squamish, British Columbia, wasn't operating at the time of the incident, which occurred around 4.30am local time, according to a statement on the gondola's website.

The Sea to Sky operator, meanwhile, says that the gondola is closed "for the foreseeable future". If you have any concerns about what you see in comments, email the editor in the link above.

Spokeswoman Const. Ashley MacKay says authorities are working to inspect the full length of the gondola line. "They're not elevated, but that does not mean 31 cars have been damaged".

Trump thumbs-up photo with orphaned baby in El Paso sparks controversy
In an effort to squash criticism over the photo, Mr Anchondo has told NPR "people are misconstruing President Trump's ideas".

"This is something that happened less than 12 hours ago, so the long-term business planning is certainly not something that is priority for us right now", Bailey said.

The gondola has 30 cars, each of which can carry eight passengers on the 10-minute ride to the top, 885m (2,900ft) above sea level. She said more information would be provided later.

"We're unable to speculate on causes at this time, and will provide details once our investigation is complete". "However, we can state that no injuries have been reported to Technical Safety BC". In 2014, a gondola fell to the ground during a trial run.

RCMP are requesting that people stay away from the area, including nearby outdoor trails, and the gondola remains closed.
