  • Hong Kong maintains freedoms unknown on the authoritarian mainland under a 50-year deal that came into effect when the former colony was handed back to China by Britain in 1997

At the pro-government rally, speakers on a stage said they love both Hong Kong and China and asked the protesters why they are afraid of China. And, as Beijing tightens its grip on Hong Kong, the future they see approaching is that of an authoritarian mainland China with curbs on the freedoms and rights they now enjoy.

In a statement, the company said: "Amazon has always and will continue to acknowledge the longstanding and widely recognized policy of 'one China, two systems.' Every country where we operate has different laws, and we will continue to respect those local laws where we do business".

He added that the unfolding situation was "solely the internal affairs of China" and warned foreign governments, including Australia's, to not support Hong Kong's protesters or interfere.

Radical protesters in Hong Kong have abandoned their peaceful protests and unfortunately some of them have turned into violent mobs who smashed the parliament, ransacked the police stations and threw bricks and petrol bombs on the streets, Tony Jiang said.

"I know violence can not fight violence but sometimes aggression is needed to attract the attention of the government and others", he said.

Meanwhile, a second pro-Hong Kong rally was held in Melbourne's CBD after protesters clashed with Chinese nationalists overnight.

Thousands of mostly young protesters forced a shutdown of flights at the city's Chek Lap Kok worldwide airport on Monday, disrupting flights until late Tuesday.

Among the demands are calls for a now-shelved extradition bill to be entirely scrapped, which has prompted further calls for increased democracy, the resignation of Mrs Lam, and an independent investigation into the use of police force.

"If Hong Kongers don't love Hong Kong, get the f*** out".

"We also want to express our view against the "Hong Kong is not part of China" message spread around by some pro-Hong Kong people, we promote peace and support the Hong Kong police".

"Any attempt to mess up Hong Kong is doomed to fail".
