  • Rajnath Singh

Earlier on Friday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had said that India follows "no first use" policy regarding nuclear weapons but said what would happen in future will depend on "circumstances". India has strictly adhered to this doctrine. "What happens in [the] future depends on the circumstances", Singh wrote.

Nevertheless, India remains "a responsible nuclear nation", which eventually became "a matter of national pride for every citizen of this country".

Pokhran was also the site of India's first nucl-ear test in 1974 under the Indira Gandhi government.

India committed in 1999 to not being the first to use nuclear weapons in any conflict.

"I wonder why we say that we don't use nuclear weapons first".

Parrikar, who died previous year, had said India was a responsible nuclear power and 'it would not use it irresponsibly'.

In 2016, two years after PM Modi stormed to power, late former Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had wondered why India can not say "we are a responsible nuclear power and I will not use it irresponsibly" instead of affirming a "no first use policy".

With Lionel Messi ruled out through injury, Griezmann started in a front three along with Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele . Aritz Aduriz scored an incredible overhead kick in the dying minutes to earn a shock win for the hosts.

The timing of the veiled threat comes particularly on the heels of spiraling tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

Vipin Narang, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, tweeted it was the 'highest level declaration that India may not feel indefinitely or absolutely bound to No First Use'.

Accusing India of irresponsible behaviour, Pakistan said that it will continue to maintain a credible deterrence. India participated in the games for the first time.

According to the Hindustan Times, the Security Council expressed "serious concerns" about the situation in Kashmir, urging all parties not to take unilateral actions that could further aggravate the situation.

Last week, Pakistan wrote to Poland, the Security Council President for August, requesting a UNSC meeting, PTI quoted a United Nations diplomat as saying.

He said "No First use" pledge is non-verifiable and can not be taken at face value, especially when development of offensive capabilities and force postures belie such claims. Days later, India sent fighter jets into Pakistan's Balakot to bomb a suspected terror training facility. It has refused to spell out what will provoke use of nuclear weapons, leaving it to the world to guess if this would be severe battlefield setbacks or imminent collapse of the Pakistani state.
