Buckingham Palace has issued a statement on behalf of Prince Andrew regarding the Jeffrey Epstein case, saying the Prince is "appalled" by Epstein's alleged crimes. CBS News foreign correspondent Charlie D'Agata reports from London, and attorney Deborah Blum joined CBSN to discuss the latest developments.

But despite Buckingham Palace coming out in full force to support Prince Andrew in distancing himself from the allegations moved against Mr Epstein, Sky News correspondent Laura Bundock warned the royal "lots of questions still remain".

Epstein had pleaded guilty in 2008 to procuring for prostitution a girl under the age of 18 and served 13 months in prison before being released on probation.

"His Royal Highness deplores the exploitation of any human being and the suggestion he would condone, participate in or encourage any such behavior is abhorrent", the statement continued.

It comes after the Daily Mail obtained video footage which claimed to show the Duke of York inside the well-connected financier's Manhattan mansion in 2010. Any claim to the contrary is false and without foundation'. "My focus is my work".

The prince plays a minor role in royal affairs. In 2014, the prince set up an initiative called Pitch@Palace to bring together tech entrepreneurs.

Andrew, who is fourth in line to the throne, is among the rich and powerful who have been swept up by their ties - past or present - to Epstein, whose death in a Manhattan jail cell earlier this month was ruled a suicide.

The defamation case was brought by Virginia Giuffre, an alleged victim of Epstein, against socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, who was claimed to have introduced the prince to her friend Epstein, the BBC reported.

Epstein, who was found dead in his jail cell earlier this month, was accused of arranging to have sex with dozens of underage girls at his residences in NY and Florida.

The unusual circumstances surrounding his death sparked controversy and authorities demanded an investigation into his death.
