The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their three-month-old son Archie Harrison are back in the United Kingdom after a vacation to Nice, France where they reportedly stayed at Elton John and David Furnish's home on the French Riviera.

The singer also highlighted the pair's "hard work and dedication to charity", insisting he and his husband David Furnish had wanted the couple to enjoy a private holiday with baby Archie.

He says the flight was carbon neutral because it was offset by a contribution to Carbon Footprint.

John took to Instagram on Monday to slam stories that suggested that Prince Harry and Meghan were hypocritical for accepting jet travel to stay at his home in Nice despite their devotion to eco-causes.

The royal couple have now been on four private jet trips in the space of 11 days.

"I highly respect and applaud both Harry and Meghan's commitment to charity and I'm calling on the press to cease these relentless and untrue assassinations on their character that are spuriously crafted on an nearly daily basis", he ended his Twitter thread.

The trip to France reportedly had a carbon footprint of three tons, while the annual carbon footprint for the average British citizen is 13 tons. "But the Duke and Duchess of Sussex flew on a 12-seater Cessna plane, which would have cost more than £20,000 to hire, that generates seven times the emissions per person when compared to a commercial flight", reported The Sun.

On Saturday, Teresa Pearce, an MP from the opposition Labour Party in the United Kingdom parliament criticized the royal couple for their flying habits.

She said: "Given the position they have taken publicly about being responsible on climate change, this does seem an anomaly which they should look at".

The Rocket Man singer, one of the world's best-selling music artists, was writing after criticism of Meghan, 38, and Harry, 34, for flying by private jet despite their campaigning about environmental issues, such as climate change.

The socially conscious royals have recently taken mini-breaks to Nice, France, and the island of Ibiza, racking up a number of private flights in less than two weeks. That is really important - and someone as high profile as that should lead by example.

And at the end of that month, Prince Harry is believed to have travelled, with a private jet, to Sicily to attend the yearly Google Camp, a gathering attended by A-listers to discuss several topics, including climate change and politics.
