  • Defensive tackle Bruce Hector rushes against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday Oct. 21 2018. The Cardinals acquired him on Thursday

For the Philadelphia Eagles, that means striking a trade with the Arizona Cardinals to land the services of safety Rudy Ford, in a move that will send defensive lineman Bruce Hector out west. He played 62 snaps on defense and 286 on special teams.

Ford played on special teams in 10 games as a rookie before a knee injury ended his season.

Ford appeared in 23 games for the Cardinals the past two years and made 14 combined tackles.

The Cardinals have D.J. Swearinger and Budda Baker set as their starting safeties, added Deionte Thompson from Alabama in the 2019 NFL Draft and brought in former Cincinnati Bengals starter Josh Shaw in free agency. Starters Malcolm Jenkins and Rodney McLeod returned from past year, as did Tre Sullivan, but Philly acquired six new faces at the position.

In 13 games last season, Ford posted four tackles on defense and another 13 on special teams.

Philadelphia will host the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night in the penultimate preseason game of the summer for both teams.
