Sixty percent of Americans say a recession is likely to hit the U.S. in the next year because of President Trump's trade war with China, according to a poll released on Tuesday. Conducted in early September, the results come as Americans have become increasingly concerned that the U.S.' trade war with China may cause a recession in the coming months.

The Post/ABC poll, however, found that Trump's approval rating has dropped to 38 percent, from a career-high of 44 percent in July.

The approval rating for the president in relation to the economy also dipped down below half to 48 percent, while his approval for other policies sank below the 40s.

He noted that the only demographic that the president had a positive net approval rating was white men, who approved at the rate of 54 percent.

President Trump lashed out Tuesday at what he called a "Fake Poll" that shows his job approval numbers dropping by 6 points over the last two months as fears of an economic recession have risen. Trump's approval rating dropped below 40 percent in three new polls. Many economists and experts have interpreted the trend as a sign of a looming recession.

While Trump often portrays the polling taken in the waning days of the 2016 presidential election as wildly inaccurate, he often ignores the fact that Democrat Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by a margin of 2.1 percent. However, although 56 percent of those surveyed in the Post/ABC poll said the economy was in "excellent" or "good" condition, the figure shows a sharp drop from past year, when 65 percent viewed the economy as favorable.

In addition, 6 in 10 Americans surveyed believed a recession is likely to hit the USA next year. "Many of these polls are fixed", he tweeted. Recall, though, that Trump's approval rating has stayed between 35% and 45% in every CNN poll taken during his presidency.

The 39% he earned in this poll is the worst approval rating he's recorded since early January of this year, when the federal government shutdown occurred.
