  • Team Management & Selectors Were Part of Decision on No. 4: Sanjay Bangar

Bangar, whose India career lasted just over three years, was often mocked for his lack of worldwide exposure and how could he coach the likes of Kohli.

"If that [a rift] was the case, why would Rohit get five hundreds in the World Cup?"

Bangar, who has been replaced by Vikram Rathour, paid the price for India not finding a suitable No. 4 batsman in ODIs, particularly the World Cup.

"The entire team management and selection committee were part of the decision making for the number four in the lead up to the World Cup", he said. But I thank the BCCI and all the coaches, Duncan (Fletcher), Anil (Kumble) and Ravi (Shastri), for giving me an opportunity to serve Indian cricket for five years.

After spending a lot of time on the road, Bangar is in the mood to "reflect, refresh and reinvent" and said that he may not take up any other coaching assignment immediately. "We won 30 out of the 52 Tests we played and 13 of them were overseas".

Trump issues fresh warnings to Taliban group while observing 9/11 attacks
Speaking during a ceremony to mark the 9/11 attacks, President Trump said "We had peace talks scheduled a few days ago". Opinion was similar among veterans specifically, with 58% saying the war was not worth fighting and 38% saying it was.

Sanjay Bangar's five-year stint with the Indian men's cricket team came to an end after the recently concluded West Indies tour and while his exit was marred by the team management's inability to find the right No.4 for India's ODI setup, the 46-year-old looks back at his at the stint with happiness, that saw India being No. 1 in Tests for three years in a row. "The choice relied upon current form, fitness criteria, whether he was a left-hander, whether he could bowl, etc.", he said. Virat Kohli slammed 43 centuries, Rohit Sharma notched up 28 tons and Shikhar Dhawan 18 and Cheteshwar Pujara has scored 12 Test ton in the same period.

Difference of opinion can not be construed as conflict, said India head coach Ravi Shastri as he sought to play down the speculation of a rift between captain Virat Kohli and his limited-overs deputy Rohit Sharma.

Talking about the success of Indian batsmen under his watch in the last five years Bangar said, "Virat always looks to iron out deficiencies". He elaborated "We worked on his alignments, positioning on the crease, his approach in seaming conditions". We worked on how he could get behind the line and open up scoring areas and overcome his dismissals against the short ball. I have seen how the boys have played, and how they have complemented the team and know their work ethic.

Speaking about Rohit Sharma, Bangar said that they worked together on combating the problems the right-hander faced against the incoming balls, while Pujara worked on reducing the width of his stance. It is to their credit that they worked to unlearn old methods.
