A lunar rover which will explore the moon on foot in 2021 was unveiled in London on Thursday.
The company signed an agreement with US firm Astrobotic to launch its first mission in 2021 on Astrobotic's Peregrine lunar lander.
The world's smallest robotic Moon rover, with legs instead of wheels, will be part of the first set of payloads to be sent to the astronomical body.
"It's very important to explore the lunar tubes to know the environment that we have there so potentially humans can live in those lunar tubes when they go back to the moon", SpaceBit founder and CEO Pavlo Tanasyuk told Reuters. Britain's rover will be the country's first to be sent to the moon, and will see it join the ranks of the U.S., China and Russian Federation which have all previously accomplished that mission.
SpaceBit will be one of those partners, sending the rover to the surface inside Astrobotic's Peregrine lander.
Trump hails 'Phase 1' of trade deal with China
Trump said Friday's deal has yet to be put down on paper but said, "We should be able to get that done over the next four weeks". USA manufacturers are hurt by rising costs from the tariffs and by uncertainty over when and how the trade hostilities will win.
It is expected to land near the region of Mare Serenitatis - the Sea of Serenity - in June or July 2021.
Once the lander reaches the Moon, the 3lb 5oz (1.5kg) rover will drop from beneath it to the surface along with other payloads. It has sensors that can take measurements and collect exploration data for researchers to analyze.
The first mission will see just one rover explore the surface for only one day, until the solar night falls and it ceases to operate.
Mr Tanasyuk added: "It'll exhaust as much as 10 days on the moon earlier than going into the evening and assuredly freezing with out slay".
While the robot has an in-house name, this has not been made public as SpaceBit hopes to launch a competition in the United Kingdom, asking children to name it.
