  • BERLIN GERMANY- JUNE 18 Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and German Chancellor Angela Merkel speak to the media following talks at the Chancellery

Mr. Trump asked Zelensky during the call to "look into" former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, according to a rough White House transcript.

The diplomat was recalled from Kyiv as Rudy Giuliani - who is Trump's personal attorney and has no official role in the US government - pressed Ukrainian officials to investigate baseless corruption allegations against Democrat Joe Biden and his son Hunter, who was involved with a gas company there.

Ms Yovanovitch was dismissed from her post prior to the July call.

The former US ambassador to Ukraine who Donald Trump has called "bad news" arrived on Capitol Hill to testify on Friday in the House of Representatives impeachment inquiry into the president, while another USA envoy agreed to testify next week even as the White House sought to stonewall the investigation.

Marie Yovanovitch, the ambassador who was abruptly recalled from Kiev in May, spent more than nine hours in a closed-door meeting with House members and staff. Not only did she appear for her scheduled deposition, but boy did she have a lot to say. "She's a courageous woman", said Rep. Mike Quigley. Parnas, Fruman, and associates were arrested Wednesday evening on charges of campaign finance violations, including donating hundreds of thousands of dollars in foreign money to domestic Republican organizations.

Giuliani told the Times that he was unaware of any investigations into his actions, and defended the campaign he led in Ukraine.

Sessions has not disputed that he is "Congressman-1".

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday he will nominate U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan to be the U.S. ambassador to Russian Federation. "That is not unusual for you to meet people who then become contributors". The Trump administration found her "insufficiently loyal to the President and not committed to carrying out his foreign policy", a us official familiar with her dismissal previously told TIME.

"I'm very distressed with her present difficulties, but enormously buoyed by her courage", former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage, who served in that post under Republican George W. Bush, told Reuters.

Reacting to the suspension, a Liverpool spokesperson said: "Harvey's apology was honest , immediate and unequivocal". Elliott's social media video, for which he has since apologised , constituted an "aggravated breach" of FA rules.

What it does suggest, though, is that the efforts to obtain damaging information about political opponents predates the July 25th phone call, something that has only been suggested in the half in references to the first phone call between Trump and Zelensky, which occurred shortly after Zelensky's election in April and which was described at the time as being merely congratulatory but which has also been rumored to have included some discussion of the Biden issue.

"She's going to go through some things", Trump added. Zelensky said they used their diplomatic options, but did not elaborate.

A Barack Obama-appointee, Ms Yovanovitch was confirmed by the Republican-controlled Senate and served as United States ambassador to Ukraine from August 2016 until last May.

"China should start an investigation into the Bidens, because what happened in China is just about as bad as Ukraine", the president told reporters last week ahead of a visit to Florida to deliver remarks on Medicare.

Yovanovitch took the opportunity to deny the accusations during her testimony on Friday. "That sent a shiver through the whole Foreign Service, which was already shivering about how Trump was treating them and Pompeo wasn't defending them", the person said. "She would not accept me as a new president well enough".

Sullivan has been a career USA diplomat since 1990, with posts in Ukraine, the US mission to the European Union, South Korea and Honduras.

Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky said during a "marathon" media session Thursday that he would "happily" investigate potential interference by Ukrainian and Democratic officials in the 2016 USA election, according to the Associated Press.

Yovanovitch did not respond to TIME's request for comment, and has shunned the news media as the Ukraine scandal has escalated.
