  • Channel Islands mark Remembrance Sunday with two minutes silence

Queen Elizabeth II and members of the Royal Family led the annual Remembrance Day Service at The Cenotaph in Westminster this Sunday.

Leaders from the main political parties took a break from the United Kingdom general election campaign to join members of the royal family in honouring the country's war dead.

The Cenotaph Remembrance Sunday is commemorating the United Kingdom fallen heroes of war.

As the clock hit 11 a.m, those in attendance marked two minutes of silence which ended with the firing of a gun by the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery.

An equerry laid a wreath for the Duke of Edinburgh, who was not present after retiring from royal duties two years ago.

The Prime Minister and Labour leader were among thousands of people attending the wreath-laying service at Whitehall in central London.

Former prime ministers including Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Theresa May also attended.

Prince Charles performed the traditional wreath-laying ceremony at the Cenotaph war memorial on behalf of his royal mother, followed by the Duke of Cambridge and the Duke of Sussex.

Following the ceremony, around 10,000 veterans and servicemen and women marched past the Cenotaph.

The Festival commemorates all those who have lost their lives in conflicts, and this year will mark the 75th anniversary of a number of crucial battles of 1944 - Monte Cassino, Kohima and Imphal, and D-Day - with a particular emphasis on the role of the Commonwealth and Allied Forces.

In a video released on his Twitter account before the ceremony, Mr Corbyn paid tribute to the work of the Armed Forces both current and throughout history.

Thousands of veterans and service personnel marched past the Cenotaph in London as Remembrance Sunday services were held at churches, cemeteries and war memorials across Britain in tribute to those killed in past and recent conflicts.

'And we stand together to say: Never again'.
