A federal judge on October 25 granted the House's request for access to the grand jury secrets in the Mueller report.

Mueller was named special counsel in 2017 after the president fired former FBI Director James Comey, who previously headed the investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 elections.

In its Monday ruling, the Supreme Court ordered the House to respond to Trump's request for a stay by Thursday at 3 p.m.

A lower court ruled in lawmakers' favor and instructed the Justice Department to turn over the materials. The Supreme Court gave them until November 21.

One judge suggested the House needed the information since the Mueller report left Congress to decide whether President Donald Trump obstructed the Russian Federation probe.

But Trump asserted in his written statements to the special counsel that he didn't recall discussing WikiLeaks with Stone. Griffith asked whether it made more sense for a judge to hold a hearing and go through each redaction in the Mueller report and hear arguments on whether Congress could articulate a particularized need for that information.

Ex-Trump deputy campaign chair Rick Gates testified that Trump and Stone talked about information that was coming that could help the campaign in mid-2016, at a time when Stone was trying to get secret details about the stolen Democratic documents WikiLeaks had.

In court papers, House lawyers cited one redaction that "appears to relate to grand jury evidence indicating that President Trump sought or obtained advance knowledge of WikiLeaks's plans during the campaign" to release damaging emails related to Hillary Clinton's campaign.

The questions about whether Trump lied in his written testimony to Mueller come as Trump tweeted Monday he might be willing to offer written testimony as part of the House impeachment inquiry.

Personal attorneys for President Trump asked the Supreme Court on Friday to stay the subpoena - issued by the House Oversight Committee - until the court could decide whether to take up the case.
