  • South Dakota announces new meth prevention campaign

The meth campaign is not the first time South Dakota has raised eyebrows with a quirky public service announcement, running a series of ads in 2014 warning drivers not to "jerk and drive" in snowy conditions - referring to the steering wheel, of course. With the theme "Meth".

Noem, appearing in a video for the campaign, said South Dakota's meth problem is "growing at an alarming rate". A press release for the campaign said it uses "impactful, even shocking" images of South Dakotans to try to communicate that meth should be tackled by everyone.

"Eighty-three percent of South Dakota's 2019 court admissions for controlled substances are related to meth", the paper noted, citing the social services secretary, Laurie Gill.

South Dakota taxpayers paid $450k for a new anti-meth PSA campaign.

The ad campaign includes a website, billboards and TV ads that will run through May.

Gov. Kristi Noem defended the campaign, posting, "Hey Twitter, the whole point of this ad campaign is to raise awareness".

Moskalkova said she also knew that Butina had been offered a job in the State Duma, the Russian lower house of parliament, and urged her to accept that one too. "And we're willing to do what we have to do to get people on it".

"For half the cost of this campaign I will develop an even better slogan: 'Drugs".

"Through this campaign, we hope to emphasize that this is an issue that affects all of us".

"Laugh all you want but it got everyone talking about South Dakota's drug problem", pointed out another user.

Others on Twitter had mixed reactions to the message - including a Kansas City-area police department that let its followers know it's not on meth. The tagline? "Meth. We're on it".
