Larry Page is no longer the CEO of Google's parent company, Alphabet-and Sundar Pichai, who's led Google since 2015, is taking his place.

Page and Brin wrote about their transition in a blog post and referenced their first founder's letter, in which they stated that "Google is not a conventional company". With Sundar Pichai in charge of everything, Google and its sister companies might become more streamlined.

Alphabet declined to comment on whether public financial reporting would change with Pichai assuming both CEO positions. The company's stranglehold on digital ad sales is likely central to antitrust investigations underway at the Justice Department and from almost every state attorney general in the country.

The company has also faced harsh criticism about the material on its sites - and was slapped with a US$170 million (S$231.87 million) fine because its video streaming site YouTube improperly collected personal data on children without their parents' consent. They created Alphabet in 2015 as a holding company that includes Google.

In recent years, Alphabet has become one of the world's most valuable companies, with a 2018 profit of some $30 billion on revenue of $136.8 billion. They will continue to serve as members of Alphabet's Board of Directors, as well as continue their involvement in the company as co-founders and shareholders.

In announcing the news of their resignation, they said the company had "evolved and matured" since its founding.

Last month, Pichai halted the weekly all-hands meetings, known as TGIF, weeks after the leaked meeting, saying he would no longer field questions about cultural or personnel matters.

Dabo Swinney defends undefeated Clemson in bizarre rant: ‘It’s the dadgumest thing’
They'll lose Bryan Edwards , one of the best receivers in school history, so getting Smith back will be a big boost. Not only is the rivalry on the line for Clemson football, but so are the Tigers' CFB Playoff hopes.

Whatever they decide to do, they will have no trouble funding it. Mr. Page is worth about $58.9 billion and Mr. Brin is worth about $56.8 billion, the sixth- and seventh-richest people in the world, according to Forbes. They will continue to be involved in the tech giant as shareholders and board members.

"I'm excited about Alphabet and its long-term focus on tackling big challenges through technology", Pichai said in a statement.

Alphabet shares rose 0.64% following the after-hours announcement to $1,303.

But Page's primary obsession has been artificial intelligence, which led to the acquisition of DeepMind, a pioneer in the AI field of deep learning.

The 47-year-old was born in India, where he studied engineering.

The geeky impulses carried into his adulthood, leading him to once build an inkjet printer out of Lego.
